Zohan Making Waves In The Movie World
Adam Sandler has enjoyed success in movies for the past fifteen years in a wide range of hit comedy films, as well as several dramas. He first caught the public eye when he joined the cast of the National Broadcasting Company's comedy show Saturday Night Live and was one of the Bad Boys of SNL along with Chris Farley, Chris Rock, and others.

His first major role was in Billy Madison where he played a young man who had to go through school again, and proceeded to make other films that received a loyal following, no matter how harsh the critics were. Sandler's off the wall brand of comedy became his trademark.

He then changed face with his film The Wedding Singer where he presented his ability to be a good actor. After that, he starred in more comedies, and a few dramas such as Punch Drunk Love, Spanglish, and Reign Over Me. His most recent comedy I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry was slightly more politically minded than most of his films due to the subject matter of gay marriage. His new movie You Don't Mess With the Zohan is also political, although not so much as Chuck and Larry.

PostHeaderIcon My Top 10 Childhood Movies

I've enjoyed movies for as long as I can remember, and I can still recall the movies I loved as a kid. I've probably forgotten about some over the years, but in reverse order, here are my top 12 favorite childhood movies:

NUMBER 12: Indian Summer

"Indian Summer" was a movie about eight friends that reunite for a week-long reunion at a summer camp they used to attend as children. The friend's are all now in their 30's, and it's a movie about rediscovering your youth and going back to a time when you were at your happiest. I don't have a lot of specific memories about this movie, other than me and Vanessa loved it as kids. I'd like to see it again, as it's been probably 12 years since I last saw it.

NUMBER 11: Weekend at Bernie's

Two dumb young losers happen to find their boss has been shot and killed, and in order to avoid becoming suspects they come up with the great idea of simply pretending he is still alive. They drag his dead body around with them everywhere, continually getting into comical situations. The man who originally tried to kill Bernie, now thinks he's still alive so he is now chasing the boys everywhere attempting to kill Bernie for good. It's one of those great cheesy 80's comedies anyone who saw it as a kid will always have fond memories of.

PostHeaderIcon Paris Hilton Released Title

Paris Hilton has released a couple of titles under her new music label, Heiress Records. Heiress Records was formed as a sub label for the powerful and well known Warner Bros. Records by none other than the starlet herself, Paris Hilton. The label was created in 2004 but did not release its first album until 2006.

In 2006, Paris Hilton released her first album, known simply as “Paris.” The album hit number 6 on the Billboard charts for a week, but ultimately didn't sell as many CDs as the label would have like to see from a major celebrity (I guess it just shows you that just because someone is famous doesn't mean they should be a singer). Still, her first single, called Stars Are Blind did reach the top ten in 17 countries.

All music, a web site which specializes in reviewing new music releases and providing all the celebrity gossip you could possibly want about any of your favorite singers said that the album was "more fun than anything released by Britney Spears or Jessica Simpson, and a lot fresher, too."

In 2007, Hilton gave an interview to MTV where she confirmed that the next Paris Hilton release title would be a dance album. She said that she was a huge fan of Bob Sinclair and wanted to recreate the kind of dance vibe he'd made famous. In typical “I've got more more than I could possibly spend” fashion, Paris had a recording studio installed in her home in order to work on the album and on September 30, 2008, she premiered her song "My BFF" on KIIS-FM with host Ryan Seacrest.

In the end, it was Taylor Swift.

Also in the beginning and in the middle.

The multi-platinum 19-year-old won the Country Music Association’s biggest prize, entertainer of the year, at the 43rd Annual CMA Awards, held Wednesday night at the Sommet Center.

Swift is the first solo female to win that trophy in a decade, and she’s the youngest person ever to take the category. She also won for best album (Fearless) and best video (“Fearless,” directed by Trey Fanjoy), and she ended Carrie Underwood’s three-year reign as the CMA’s top female vocalist.

Swift was nominated in four categories and won four categories, she opened the show with a performance and closed the show with the entertainer win, and fans shrieked for her every onstage move and at every mention of her name.

Swift’s domination did not come without intrigue. Prognosticators hemmed, hawed and disagreed with each other over eight of nine top categories (Brad Paisley was a heavy favorite as male vocalist, which he won for the third year in a row), particularly entertainer. Kenny Chesney, who filled NFL stadiums at his tour stops this summer and who sometimes sported an opening act named Taylor Swift, had won that award four of the past five years, and had he won on Wednesday he would have overtaken Garth Brooks as the CMA’s all-time winningest entertainer.

“I’ll never forget this moment,” said Swift, weeping upon winning the entertainer award. “Because in this moment, everything that I have ever wanted has happened to me.”

This year, Swift has sold more albums than any living performer in any genre.

“She’s the biggest artist in music, period, by far,” said Paisley, who co-hosted the show with Underwood. “So it’s a hands-down (thing) that she’s entertainer of the year.”

Swift’s win wasn’t the only history-making moment of the evening.

Darius Rucker, whose burst to attention 14 years ago as the frontman for pop-rock band Hootie & the Blowfish, became the first African-American to win a CMA new artist of the year award. Released on Capitol Nashville, Rucker’s Learn To Live album has spawned three No. 1 country singles.

“What a year,” Rucker said, accepting the award. “(Capitol Chief) Mike Dungan, everybody told you that you were crazy. They told you this wouldn’t work. ... To the fans, thank y'all for accepting me. And to country radio, you took a chance on a pop singer from Charleston, S.C., and God bless y'all for that.”

Backstage, Rucker thought back to last September, when his Learn To Live album was released.

“Best case scenario, I thought was maybe the third single we’d get in the Top 10, and then we’d see what we could do. ... Now, I’m going to make a lot more records, thanks to this. I’m proud to be that guy who is taking up where Charley Pride left off, and trying to make country music that people want to listen to.”

Last year’s top new artist, Nashville-based trio Lady Antebellum, triumphed in a vocal group category that included one of the band’s formative influences, the Eagles, and superstar group Rascal Flatts, which had won the award six straight years.

“Rascal Flatts, that’s some big shoes to fill,” said Lady Antebellum’s Charles Kelley. “We don’t quite feel worthy. But we’ve had the most amazing year, we’ve made so many friends in this industry, and everyone seems so supportive. Our goal is to be doing this for a long, long time.”
